Early deadline coming Due to the Memorial Day holiday, there will be an early deadline for the May 27 issue of The News-Sun. News and advertising submissions are due on Thursday, May 21, at 4 p.m. Web site on line Newport’s new Web site is up and running at www.newportboro.com. Take a bow A customer appreciation day will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, at the Care & Share Thrift Store, Route 235 at Seven Stars. There will be light refreshments and hourly door prize drawings. Eat for a good cause A chicken and waffles dinner will be offered from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 22, at Turkey Valley UMC, Route 235 between East Salem and Seven Stars. Donations will be accepted for the benefit of the church’s missions. Dinner at church Highland United Presbyterian Church will hold an all-you-can-eat ham dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 23. The menu includes baked ham, macaroni and cheese, green beans, slaw, rolls, butter, assorted desserts and beverages. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 5 and younger. Takeouts will be available. Barbecue benefit Hope Eternal UMC is offering a chicken barbecue for pick up from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, at Hopeful Thing Clothing Shop, 48 Penn Ave., Newport. A chicken half, baked potato and applesauce will be available for $6.50. Chicken only costs $5. Readers may call 645-4187 for tickets which also are available from church members. Proceeds benefit the new church building. Catch of the day The Liverpool Volunteer Fire Company will offer a fish fry from 4 to 7 p .m. on Saturday, May 23, at the fire hall. The meal includes all-you-can-eat fish, french fries, baked beans, pepper slaw, rolls and one dessert. Ice cream will be available for $1 per scoop. The cost is $8 for adults and $6 for children ages 7-12. Open house set Greater Perry Community Christian Academy, 55 West Shortcut Road, Newport, will hold an open house for prospective students from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26.
