Trash hauler pleads guilty
Frederick Thebes, 63, of Centre Twp. has pleaded guilty to seven counts of unlawful conduct under the Solid Waste Management Act and one count of prohibition against other pollution, a violation under the Clean Streams Act.

Signs reinforce message: Yield to pedestrians
Three Perry County boroughs are participating in the “Yield to Pedestrian Channelizing Devices” program established by PennDOT to reduce crashes involving cyclists and pedestrians.
Duncannon, New Bloomfield and Newport use the devices to remind motorists that they are to obey state law and yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.

Repeat’s a treat for West Perry cheerleading squad
The Perry County cheerleading tournament is the most nerve-wracking of all county-wide competitions.
For coaches, participants and their fans, it’s two-and-a-half minutes of high anxiety, 150 seconds of pressure-filled athletic daring when the slightest mistake can undue months of hard work and preparation.
On Nov. 4, for the second year in a row, Lindsay Swab’s West Perry squad handled that pressure best.

Susquenita suffers scoring drought
As shakedown cruises go, the opening of Chris Kapp’s first year as head coach of the Susquenita soccer program couldn’t have gone better. The Blackhawks parlayed shutouts of Juniata and Millersburg into a spot in the championship game of the Indians’ tournament, then battled Schuylkill Haven to a 1-1 tie before losing on penalty kicks.
Defensive problems limit West Perry soccer’s success
The night before West Perry soccer’s season opener, junior Charles Enck, scheduled to start in goal, broke his arm.
Three months later, in the first half of their final game, the District 3-AA play-in tilt against Big Spring, Mustang sweep Dylan Freyermuth broke his leg.
In between, West Perry coach Mike Radich had to deal with a series of other injuries that sapped what little depth he had, forcing him to tinker constantly with his rotation and alignments trying to get the best possible matchups to put his team in position to win.
