Marysville Borough Council tabled any action regarding its proposed streetscape project until its Aug. 11 meeting.
At council meetings on July 14 and 21, members discussed the plan with Cumberland County Housing and Redevelopment Authority Executive Director Chris Gulotta and Craig Bachik, a principal with Karios Design Group, Lemoyne.
Gulotta said the borough has approximately $470,000 in state and federal grants toward the project, adding taxpayers would not be responsible for any cost associated with the project, although the grants would not cover sewer infrastructure improvements. Gulotta said in order to accept the funds, council needed to adopt and pass a resolution.
Bachik met with borough council to discuss any concerns members had with the designs. They asked Bachik to draw storm-water basins along Valley Street Ext. to alleviate some of the runoff from Route 850.
The project has been in the works since 2003, when it was proposed as part of the Marysville revitalization plan. A master plan was drawn in 2006.
The objective for the streetscape project is to attract businesses into Marysville and revitalize the square.
The former location of the First National Bank of Marysville may be sold. At the July 14 meeting, council member Sherree Knight said the building, on the corner of Front and Lincoln streets, should be put out for bid, as there has been nothing done with it in eight years. Other council members agreed.
Council purchased the building from the bank in 2000. Plans were to lease the building to Bethany United Methodist Church’s Caring Closet, but that deal fell through.
